Flying to Dubrovnik

Airlines offering direct flights to Dubrovnik from the UK include British Airways, Thomson Norwegian, easyJet and Jet2.com. No-frills airlines such as easyJet offer cheap flights to Dubrovnik most of the year although booking well in advance for a trip during the summer months is highly advisable. There are no direct flights from the USA.

Travel by road

Road quality in Croatia has improved greatly over the past two decades, although smaller inland roads can be less well maintained. Cars drive on the right. To drive in Croatia, you must be over 18 years of age and hold a valid national driving licence.

Speed limits are 130kph (80mph) on motorways, 110kph (68mph) on dual carriageways, 90kph (56mph) outside built-up areas and 50kph (30mph) in built-up areas. You require a minimum of third-party insurance to drive in Croatia.

Routes

The Adriatic Highway (E65) links Dubrovnik to the Croatian city of Split in the north and Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as Montenegro in the south. An extension of the Split-Zagreb motorway is underway, which will, when completed, link Dubrovnik to the Croatian capital, Zagreb. At present, only certain sections have been finished and political problems mean that the final completion date is uncertain.

Coaches

The main bus station in Dubrovnik is located 2km (1.3 miles) to the north of the Old Town at Gruž on Obala Ivana Pavla II. Autotrans (tel: +385 51 660 660; www.autotrans.hr) is one of the main long-distance operators, and operates in conjunction with Eurolines to provide services to cities elsewhere on the continent.

From Split - 3 hours; Zagreb - 6 hours.

Travel by Rail

Services

There are no rail services to Dubrovnik. The nearest station is in Split, which is 4-5 hours away by bus.

Travel by boat

A pleasant way of travelling to Dubrovnik is by sea. The Dubrovnik Port Authority (tel: +385 20 313 333; www.portdubrovnik.hr) can provide further information.

Ferry operators

There are several international and coastal ferry lines with arrivals and departures to/from Dubrovnik, but the main Croatian passenger shipping line is Jadrolinija (tel: +385 51 666 111; www.jadrolinija.hr), which operates national and international routes, including a service between Dubrovnik and Bari, Italy.

Valamar Club Dubrovnik
