Chinese New Year

This is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year. Symbolically, new clothes are usually worn to signify the new year and homes are thoroughly cleaned to sweep away any ill fortune. Families visit one another, with little red packets, or 'hong bao', filled with money, gifted to children.

Singapore Dragon Boat Festival

The dragon boat racing commemorates the search for an ancient Chinese poet and patriot. Nowadays the Dragon Boat Association hosts a few races throughout the year, including the DBS Marina Regatta and the National Dragon Boat Race in Bedok Reservoir.

Great Singapore Sale

Singapore loves to shop, especially during the 'GSS' which galvanises stores and malls citywide. Singapore Grand Prix

Singapore held the first night-time Formula One Grand Prix in September 2008, with 5km (3 miles) of smooth course snaking around Marina Bay under specially designed lights. The thrilling event - which saw Fernando Alonso storm up the field from 15th place to claim victory - is now held every September/ October in Singapore, and the terrific atmosphere and enthusiasm of the locals make it one of the best times to visit.

Deepavali

The Festival of Lights celebration takes place on the main road of Little India, which is decorated with many colourful and bright lights, street decorations and fireworks. Traditional and culture activities, street parade, concerts and impressive bazaars with traditional clothing, saris, oil lamps, fragrant flowers and jewellery all come together, as well as delicious Indian food.
